A Special Lecture On ‘My Experiences with the Process of Creative Writing’ and Book Exhibition organized at M M Modi College, Patiala

Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala today organized a special lecture on the topic, ‘My experiences with the process of creative writing’ as part of the week-long celebrations of Modi Jayanti to engage the students with the relevance of reading and writing good literature for their future success. The literary society of Post-graduate Department of Punjabi, ‘Punjabi Sahit Sabha’ and the literary society ‘Arcadia’ of the English Department of the Modi college in collaboration with the Publication Bureau, Punjabi University, Patiala organized a book –exhibition to promote the culture of reading. The special lecture was delivered by eminent Punjabi novelist and writer Sh. Baldev Singh.
College Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar welcomed the speaker and said that real transformations in humane societies are possible only through good literature and art. The culture of reading books is important not only for cultural and linguistic preservation but also for creating responsible and intelligent societies.
Dr. Gurdeep Singh Sandhu. Head, Punjabi Department said that this lecture is focused at understanding the thought process and writing process of Sh. Baldev Singh as his works are important for analyzing the literary, cultural and social landscapes of Punjab
Dr. Parminder Singh, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Punjabi formally introduced the guest speaker. He said that Dr. Baldev Singh is an authority on Punjabi literature and also a critical thinker.
In his lecture Sh. Baldev Singh shared different phases of his learning and reading experiences with the students. He said that the circumstances and struggles of life are the main inspiration behind his success as a writer. Remembering his days in Calcutta as a truck driver and later as a writer he discussed how search for the truth, the resistance to injustice and fighting with inequality in the society gives birth to the works of literature and arts. He motivated the students to be honest with their life goals and advised the faculty members to work hard on the intellectual growth of the students
There was also an interaction between the students and the main speaker after the lecture. Sh. Baldev Singh and the Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar also formally inaugurated the book exhibition. This book exhibition was organized to provide classical texts on nominal rates to the students by Publication Bureau, Punjabi University, Patiala and Gracious Books publication house, Patiala. Students and teachers purchased books on different subjects in Punjabi, Hindi, English and Urdu. The stage was conducted by Dr. Devinder Singh. The lecture was also attended by Vice. Principal. Dr. Jasbir Kaur, Dr. Ashwani Sharma, Dr. Neeraj Goyal, Dr. Rupinder Sharma, Dr. Rupinder Singh, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur and Prof. Jagjot Singh
The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Deepak Dhalewa. A memento was also presented to the guest speaker.

ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਲਿਖਣ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗਿਕਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਮੋਦੀ ਜਯੰਤੀ ਦੇ ਹਫ਼ਤੇ ਭਰ ਚੱਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਮਾਗਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਅੱਜ ‘ਰਚਨਾਤਮਕ ਲੇਖਣ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਿਆ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੇ ਅਨੁਭਵ‘ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ‘ਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਲੈਕਚਰ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ।ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਭਵਿੱਖੀ ਸਫਲਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਦੀ ਅਹਿਮੀਅਤ ਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ-ਵਟਾਂਦਰਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਸੀ।ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਪੋਸਟ-ਗ੍ਰੈਜੂਏਟ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਸਭਾ ‘ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਸਭਾ‘ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਸਭਾ ‘ਆਰਕੇਡੀਆ‘ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਪਬਲੀਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਬਿਊਰੋ ਦੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਫੁੱਲਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨੀ ਲਗਾਈ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਵਕਤਾ ਵੱਜੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦੇ ਉੱਘੇ ਨਾਵਲਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਲੇਖਕ ਸ. ਬਲਦੇਵ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੜਕਨਾਮਾ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ.ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਬੁਲਾਰੇ ਦਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮਾਨਵੀ ਸਮਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸਲ ਤਬਦੀਲੀ ਚੰਗੇ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਕਲਾ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਸੰਭਵ ਹੈ। ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਦਾ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਈ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਲਈ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਗੋਂ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਸੂਝਵਾਨ ਸਮਾਜਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਰਜਣਾ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ।
ਡਾ.ਗੁਰਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੰਧੂ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਬਲਦੇਵ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀਆਂ ਰਚਨਾਵਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ, ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਲੇਸ਼ਣ ਲਈ ਬੇਹੱਦ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਹਨ।
ਡਾ.ਪਰਮਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ, ਸਹਾਇਕ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਬੁਲਾਰੇ ਦੀ ਰਸਮੀ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਕਰਵਾਈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਡਾ: ਬਲਦੇਵ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਦਾ ਅਹਿਮ ਹਸਤਾਖਰ ਹੋਣ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਆਲੋਚਨਾਤਮਕ ਚਿੰਤਕ ਵੀ ਹਨ।
ਆਪਣੇ ਲੈਕਚਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ੍ਰੀ. ਬਲਦੇਵ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਅਤੇ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਪੜਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਲੇਖਕ ਵਜੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਫ਼ਲਤਾ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਹਾਲਾਤ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਹੀ ਮੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਸਰੋਤ ਹਨ। ਕਲਕੱਤੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਟਰੱਕ ਡਰਾਈਵਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਲੇਖਕ ਵਜੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਸੱਚ ਦੀ ਤਲਾਸ਼, ਬੇਇਨਸਾਫ਼ੀ ਦਾ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸਮਾਨਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਨਾ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਕਲਾਵਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਰਚਨਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਟੀਚਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਇਮਾਨਦਾਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਫੈਕਲਟੀ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਬੌਧਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਲਈ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
ਇਸ ਲੈਕਚਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਬੁਲਾਰੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਸਵਾਲਾਂ-ਜਵਾਬਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਦਾਨ-ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਵੀ ਹੋਇਆ।ਸ਼੍ਰੀ. ਬਲਦੇਵ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ.ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨੀ ਦਾ ਰਸਮੀ ਉਦਘਾਟਨ ਵੀ ਕੀਤਾ। ਪਬਲੀਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਬਿਊਰੋ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਗਰੇਸ਼ੀਅਨ ਬੁੱਕਸ ਪਬਲੀਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਹਾਊਸ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਮੂਲੀ ਦਰਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਕਲਾਸੀਕਲ ਪਾਠ ਮੁਹੱਈਆ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨੀ ਲਗਾਈ ਗਈ। ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ, ਹਿੰਦੀ, ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਰਦੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ‘ਤੇ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਖਰੀਦੀਆਂ। ਸਟੇਜ ਦਾ ਸੰਚਾਲਨ ਡਾ: ਦਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਲੈਕਚਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਵਾਈਸ. ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਮ੍ਰਿਸਿਜ਼ ਜਸਬੀਰ ਕੌਰ, ਡਾ. ਅਸ਼ਵਨੀ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ, ਡਾ. ਨੀਰਜ ਗੋਇਲ, ਡਾ. ਰੁਪਿੰਦਰ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ, ਡਾ. ਰੁਪਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ, ਪ੍ਰੋ.ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ, ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਜਗਜੋਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਡਾ. ਪਰਮਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਹੋਏ।
